Just a Thought

If we put God in a box we will never be able to comprehend Him doing anything bigger than us.

Peanuts-a-Plenty!

Posted in My Take On It..., Wall of Laughter on August 29, 2007 by strangerintheearth

Get this: I go through about a 16 oz. jar of REAL brand Peanut Butter per week. The tasty smoothness of their creamy recipe is something I find irresistible. The ingredients are simple; “Real”, you might say. All it contains is roasted peanuts and less than 1% salt. That’s shear brilliance in my estimation, especially when compared to the fake alternative that mostly consists of shortening and high fructose corn syrup. However, on the label of this delicious spread is the ingredients, as listed above, and then this statement DIRECTLY below it: “Contains: peanuts.” So… if it’s REAL peanut butter… and the only ingredient of any significance is peanuts… wouldn’t it stand to reason… ? I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’.

Weekend Discoveries

Posted in My Take On It... on August 28, 2007 by strangerintheearth

Here’s what I know…

1-   The farmer’s market downtown is one of the best things to do on a Saturday morning in this city. Cheap jam made by the Amish makes eating now even more enjoyable! And to be honest, $4 for a bag of spring greens the size of a standard adult pillow is just a great deal, even if the whole thing rots before you have a chance to stuff that much salad in your face.

2-      Watching an abandon building go up in flames at about midnight in a sketchy part of the city is a great way to break up your evening, but probably shouldn’t be done if you don’t have a boyfriend the size of mine right next to you. Unless of course, you are a boy- in that case, nevermind.

3-      Chipotle is only good when you anticipate the horrible stomach ache you’re bound to wake up with.

4-      Drinking coffee immediately can be an effective short-term remedy to ease that stomach ache. Keyword: short-term.

5-      I Am David is a really sweet movie because you feel overwhelmingly protective of the main character and find yourself being as suspicious as he is and then turn into a blubbering sap at the end.

6-      Mike Bickle’s high fives can sting a little, but I’m almost positive he moisturizes.

7-      It! Jeans are now my favorite brand …when I get them for free.

I Do Love A Good Mystery

Posted in Stories, Wall of Laughter on August 27, 2007 by strangerintheearth

A handfull of days ago the entire student body got an e-mail. It made the declaration that two weeks into the semester classes are cancelled and homework and prayer room requirements are null and void until September. Who was it sent by? Well, it was signed by the Student Goverment Association and the school’s Communications Team. Was it legit? No. But props to the person without a conscience who managed to hack into their account. I think I chuckled a little when I heard what happened, but now I have coffee on my lap and an assignment due. Not my day, I guess.

What does pen clicking and gum snapping have in common?

They are two of the most loathefully annoying sounds contrived by the human race.

I’m a Genius

Posted in My Take On It..., Points of Frustration on August 24, 2007 by strangerintheearth

It’s Friday again. The good thing about Fridays is that it’s the day before Saturday. The bad thing about Fridays is that, well… it’s still not Saturday. Right now I’m procrastinating over an assignment that requires all kinds of steps and thick books that have little to nothing convenient about them.  I high-five Zodhiates for all his brilliant work, but wow.

I’m in Dunn Bros, sipping my Fully City Brew with not much excitement after a wild goose chase to find an Interlinear Bible and a New Englishman’s Greek Concordance with handy Lexicon. My instructor insists on using the internet as a last resort, but I think rebellion is in the works- two lame libraries later, I’m rifling through ciberspace.

Actually, I have been doing a bit of research, just not in the Bible. For the last month or more I have been driven nearly to the point of insanity due to one very large, very loud creature that makes me want to go on a Raid rampage until peace is restored, but now I have found a little more information on my mortal enemies. Ladies and gents, I’d like to introduce you to the most obnoxious creature ever (besides that guy I once encountered in the early days at a club that I refuse to go back to for more than one reason). It is the dreaded Cicada.

These are what nightmares are made of. You can read the link, but did you know that they can exist underground for up to 17 years before they come to the surface? Then they lay up to 600 eggs. The moral of the story? Kill them! Kill them ALL!!! You might say something like, “Carrie, if all the cicadas were removed there would be an imbalance in the ecosystem- they eat the sap off of trees!”

Okay, all I have to say to that is just THINK for a second about what you’re saying!! Personally, I would much rather be overrun by too much sap than loathsome beasts that keep me up at night, buzzing outside my window for no reason whatsoever. Miserable bugs…

Let’s Take a Poll

I decided to try out “Hemmingway.” Any opinions on the theme? Vote yes or no on current theme. Let’s face it, you’re the one who has to stare at it as you sit at the edge of your seat intil I finally post something new.

Asking Until…

Posted in My Take On It... on August 21, 2007 by strangerintheearth

My, O my, it has been a long wait for any kind of post. I feel sorry for all of you who wish I’d get my act together. My semester has started, which invariably translates to limited time for creative things. On the upside, however, it magnifies my ability to process information pertaining to prayer and the study of the Word, which can lead to interesting bunny trails of all kinds. My personality is such that aches for side notes and random thoughts that have little to nothing to do with the topic at hand. This is one of those types of things that come to my mind when I’m absorbing information in the classroom.

Hang on… I’m coming…

Posted in Uncategorized on August 21, 2007 by strangerintheearth

Don’t worry, folks. I’ll be writing wicked good stuff soon. I have some things brewing that wouldn’t be appropriate to devulge prematurely, but hang tight- I’m on my way to finishing some thoughts and then I’ll be back in business. Plus, relax! I’m in school, there’s lots to do!!

Stalker

Posted in Points of Frustration on August 8, 2007 by strangerintheearth

Okay, I have a botheration. There seems to be a consistent amount of either one or more individuals nearly daily who searches my first and last name and aptly wind up here. Actually, creepily enough, there was a total of 14 clicks onto my boyfriend’s site in search of my first and last name shortly after I got this account. These phantoms click on to my blog and that’s all she wrote. Now, I ask myself…. does this person know me? Is there another Carrie Blom for whom they are searching, or are they the most likely option: a stalker? The point is, who are you?

I mean, if you plan on clicking on every day, you might as well set me as one of your ”favorites”, because let’s face it, I am- even if you think I’m jacked up and have nothing good to say, I still have that magnetic power that draws you in day after day after day after day after day… okay, I’m freaking myself out.
